What is Bowen?

Tom Bowen developed a method, exploring ideas by addressing the body gently, manipulating fascia and structures such as tendons, ligaments, nerves and muscles. The “Bowen” technique gave opportunity to stimulate the bodys innate healing process, realign the body and generate relief from chronic pain and illnesses. Bowen therapy is a holistic, gentle, hands on therapy that stimulates the autonomic nervous system to shift from sympathetic to parasympathetic. The body can then rest, relax and start to recover.

Bowen is for everyone

The Bowen technique is appropriate to use for individuals of all ages, including babies, and in all degrees of health. Bowen can assist recovery from many conditions from traumatic injury to chronic illnesses, depending upon each individual’s capacity to heal.

What to wear?

Although I prefer to work on skin, Bowen may be practiced through LIGHT or THIN and LOOSE clothing such as joggers/ shorts and a t shirt.

What does a Bowen session involve?

A session involves one or more procedures made up of sets of “moves”. Between each set of moves there are pauses for the body to begin responding. It does so holistically by using the body’s innate healing mechanisms. The practitioner delivers signals to the nervous system at specific locations using fingers or thumbs to move over muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia or nerves and the body does the rest, responding in its own time, as it is able.

This therapy can be effective to help relieve everyday stresses and revitalise the whole person. Each Bowen therapy session varies according to the particular problems of the client. By focusing on the lower and mid back and legs, the upper back, shoulders and the neck, a sense of wellbeing can be achieved, helping relaxation, aiding sleep – helping to remove everyday stress and anxiety that can make us feel under-par or prevent us functioning at our optimum.

A session may last between 40mins - 1 hour and the client may require any where between 2 - 4 sessions, depending on the gravity of their condition.

It may take time for the body to unwind to the origin of pain but clients usually experience a fast pain relief after the very first session. The therapy continues to work subtly between sessions, yet has a powerful impact and corrects malalignment, releases toxins encouraging lymphatic drainage, energy and blood flow, according to their needs.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR BOWEN

Bowen Therapy is considered a safe therapy. It is gentle, non invasive and relaxing.

On your first visit, you will be asked to fill out a form. Any contraidications will be revealed, discussed and the therapy explained before treatment. Your information shall be reviewed in future sessions to remain current.

By law it is stated that Bowen is a medical aid, and you should therefore please obtain consent from your doctor or other health care professional to under go treatment.

I do not claim to cure or diagnose symptoms.

Treatment may be refused, discontinued or postponed if the client is under the influences of alcohol or drugs, has a fever or contagious/ infectious disease.

The client should be five days clear of any other body work either side of the Bowen treatment. This will show you which treatment may be working for you or avoid any healing process being interrupted.

I accept cash or cheques only. Vouchers are non refundable. Payment is accepted after each treatment.

Cancellation policy

A 24 hours notice is kindly requested if you have to cancel. Appointment slots can not be filled at short notice and the full price of the treatment will be required if a 24 hour notice is not given. Incase you arrive late, all appointments will end (and start) at the appointed time, and full price for the treatment will be required. Bowen Therapy Thorpe Bay reserves the right to reschedule any appointments if necessary.
